Daily Motivation - Day 1

Day 1: Think Positively

Many of us are hindered in many ways because of negative thinking. An example of negative thinking is when you are driving your car peacefully, when suddenly this guy just cuts in in-front of you. In your head, you go

"This crazy fellow! I nearly crashed into him! Is he blind? Has he got no brain?"

And you go on inside your brain a thread of negative thoughts.  And your whole body is overwhelmed with anger and your whole day is ruined.

Another example is less critical, but as deadly as the first. This is when you want to venture out to maybe start a new business.  In your brain, you are thinking.

"Nah... I'd better not. What if no one buys my product. I'll be wasting xyz amount on it. Also, my family and friends will see what a failure I am."

And on and on your brain goes until, you are even fearful to mention the business idea again.

Both the examples above,  I admit, I had been guilty of doing in the past...

We have to know that negative thoughts is there for a reason. It is to protect us from harm. To make us stay away from danger. But it gets out of hand when we let negative thoughts run our lives. Stopping us from reaching our fullest potential of what we can become!

How do you overcome negative thoughts and stop it hindering you?

  1. Acknowledge the negative thoughts. Understand that the thoughts are there and that they are useful for us to prepare for harm.

  2. Find out what are the negative thoughts trying to tell us. For example, if you are thinking of all the negative thoughts about your new business venture, then think of all the ways to solve the problems. Ask yourself, how you can overcome the problems.

  3. See things from a different perspective. The more perspective we see each situation that we are in, the more we know the truth and how to solve it. Going back to the example with the crazy driver that swirled in-front of you suddenly, well, you could look this way.  You could think that he might be in a hurry to go somewhere urgently. Haven't you had days where you need to get someplace urgently? Maybe he did not see you. It might not be his intention to make your day miserable. Another way to look at it is, "wow, I'm so lucky that crazy guy did not hit me!  If not, I'd have to go through a lot of trouble getting my car fixed."

  4. Have faith.  Sometimes, we just have to have faith. We can prepare for all the negative thoughts and yet, the negative thoughts still pops up, well, we just have to have faith that whatever the outcome, we can handle it. If your business venture fails, so what? If you are able to raise up the capital for your business venture once, you can raise up the capital again. Anything that happens, you can handle it!
